Getting started
Do we need a diagnosis before we start?
No diagnosis is needed to talk to us or to book a parent call. We begin with an assessment to plan goals. We cannot give a medical diagnosis; if your child needs one, we will help you find a paediatrician, developmental paediatrician or clinical psychologist.
At what age should we start?
As soon as you have a concern. Earlier support gives a child more time to build skills. We work with children aged 2 to 12.
Our relatives say he will talk when he is ready. What should we do?
This is very common in Pakistan, and it comes from love. Waiting can cost valuable time, so it is wise to have your child checked by a paediatrician. We are happy to speak with relatives and explain what we are doing and why.
Is autism caused by something we did, or by nazar or a spiritual cause?
No. Autism is not caused by parenting, by nazar, or by anything a parent did or did not do. It is a difference in how the brain develops. Understanding this can take guilt and blame out of the family.
Cost and schedule
Does health insurance cover ABA therapy in Pakistan?
Most health insurance plans in Pakistan do not cover ABA therapy. Please check with your insurer. We give you a written fee breakdown so you can ask them.
How much does it cost?
Fees depend on the number of sessions each week and the programme. We share fees directly on WhatsApp and put them in writing before you commit. There are no hidden charges.
How many sessions will my child need?
It depends on your child's goals and needs. We agree a schedule with you after the assessment and review it every month.
What happens during Ramadan, Eid and school holidays?
We plan the schedule with you around Ramadan, Eid and school holidays so that your child's routine stays as steady as possible.
Where are the sessions held?
Sessions take place at our centre in Bahria Town, which serves families in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. We also give you simple activities to practise at home.
Therapy and school
What is ABA?
Applied Behaviour Analysis is a way of teaching new skills step by step, using clear goals, positive reinforcement and regular data. Good ABA respects the child, builds on strengths and involves the family.
Who supervises the programme?
ABA at Beyond Milestones is delivered under approved supervision, as the QABA board requires of ABAT-level practitioners.
Do you offer group sessions?
No. All sessions are one-to-one.
How is ABA different from speech therapy or OT?
ABA teaches skills and behaviour through structured, individual teaching. Speech therapy and occupational therapy focus on specific areas such as language or sensory and motor skills. Many children benefit from more than one, and we are happy to coordinate with your child's other therapists.
Can my child go to a regular school?
Many autistic children attend mainstream schools, some with a shadow teacher, and others do better in smaller or special settings. We can help you prepare for school and, with your consent, share a one-page profile with the school.
Will I see my child's progress?
Yes. We collect data every session and share a written progress report every month.
Family and language
Do you speak Urdu?
Yes. We communicate in English and Urdu, and we explain things in the language you are most comfortable with.
Can grandparents and other relatives take part?
Yes. We encourage the main caregivers, including grandparents, to join parent sessions so everyone responds to your child in the same way.
Will therapy change our values or our child's personality?
No. Goals are set with you and reflect your family's values. We build skills, such as communication and independence, while respecting who your child is.
